Supporting access, diversity and success

This website features the accomplishments and continuing works of Alumni and Students of the prestigious College of Environmental Design (CED) at University of California Berkeley. Unlike many University Alumni websites, this one was cultivated by members of CASA, a Latino student organization founded in 1971. The intent now, as it was at CASA’s founding, is to advance equal access to the University and assure diversity of students studying Architecture, Community Design, City & Regional Planning and Design at UC Berkeley.

The catalyst for this site is the unshakable belief that a world-class education should not be the privilege of a few, and recognition that closing the educational divide offers the surest path to economic empowerment and an opportunity to change one’s life and the world. This website promotes CASA’s historical roots, documents its current efforts and publicizes the achievements of its professionals as talented role models for all.
The development and mission of this website is unique in the United States. It is the only website originating from a world-renowned College of Environmental Design that focuses on the recruitment and support of students of color with scholarships and mentoring programs.

We also publish ByDESIGNTM, the first online publication showcasing the extraordinary work and contributions made by CASA architects, designers, planners, academics, and students to the build environment. The e-zine also highlights work of CED Alumni, and non-alumni contributors, in various professions, including development, art, education, information technology and entrepreneurial accomplishments in Fortune 500 corporations and the public sector.

Welcome and thank you for visiting!
